This painting came about through my fascination with the fascination many people have watching pornography. Especially the interest in what is called the "money shot" As Wikipedia describes: A cum shot also known as money shit are slang terms used to describe the act of a person ejaculating (in pornography), usually onto a person or object. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cum_shot).

Why do people like to see cum shots in pornography? Why do they watch two strangers (actors for the most part) pleasuring or submitting to each other? The "money shot" is the ultimate objectification of sex and gender. As stated by Susan Faludi writes it in her essay 'The Money Shot' that focus on having the man ejaculate onto a woman "... has a moral fervor, an intellectual certainty" that is usually associated with "religious or scientific pronouncements." While I was watching the environmental documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" in my Environmental Science class, I began to sketch what would be the basis of this series of comic inspired paintings about climate change and human interaction with the environment. I was frustrated by the lack of "mainstream" media and arts coverage of the environment and climate change. I wanted to make something that was both poignant yet playful and fun. The goal was to make people laugh but also think about the message in these works of art. Two of the paintings from this series, Melt (2007), and Sick World (2007), were featured in the exhibition Fumetto: Comics Comment on Climate Change, at the Westchester Arts Exchange Gallery, White Plains, NY, in 2009.
